Markets Consolidate, with Yen Slightly Weaker vs Rivals

Data from the Euro-zone was mixed today as the German IFO Business Climate Index continued to deteriorate though the current account deficit narrowed. In the US, existing home sales fell more than expected. Markets were pretty subdued with the Yen falling slightly as investors continue to speculate about the US bailout plan.

Easy-Forex 2008 US Non Farm Payrolls Worst since World War II
US Nonfarm payroll employment fell 524k in December and the unemployment rate rose from 6.7% to 7.2. Revisions from last month would put the NFP decline close to -600k. Market consensus was for nonfarm payroll decline of -500k and unemployment rise to 7%. Consensus range for NFP was -300k to -750k.

Weak European Data Sinks Euro, Commodities Ease, Rand Down on Political Turmoil
